The California Highway Patrol responded to a call reporting an injured bird near Truckee on Tuesday, the Sacramento Beereports. Sure enough, patrolmen came upon a poor hurt pelican.

"He looked tired from flying, so I knew I could get a hold of him,” Griesemer said. “This isn’t the first bird I’ve caught. I knew what to look for, how he was going to react and how he would try to defend himself.”
Perhaps that is why Griesemer put the pelican in the back of a patrol car, which makes a pretty chill stand-in for an animal carrier.
The pelican was held at the station's animal shelter for an hour, then released to a wildlife rescue team.
As far as we know, no charges are pending.
