Google's got a big event coming up next week and Historical Archivesone of the few potential surprises just got leaked to oblivion.
Alright, well, "surprise" is probably a stretch. 9to5Google managed to get their hands on a prototype model of Google's new laptop, which is supposedly called Pixelbook Go. This came just weeks after 9to5Google reported the existence of Google's new Chromebook, including its specs.
So, we've known for a little while that Google is working on a 13.3-inch laptop with a wide array of technical configurations. But Friday's leak was much more juicy because 9to5Google got plenty of great photos and video footage of the machine in action. Check it out below.
As you can see, it's a Chromebook in more of a MacBook form factor. There's a USB-C port on each side, with one of the sides also hosting a 3.5mm headphone jack and an LED. It also has a very similar looking keyboard to the one we loved on 2017's Pixelbook, which would give it a huge leg up over any recent MacBook.
By far the most distinctive visual feature is the ribbed, washboard-like bottom side. 9to5Google said this felt good to the touch, but we can't verify that until we get our hands on it ourselves.
As was previously reported, the Pixelbook Go will have several different specs available at different price points we don't know yet. The lowest-end version will have an Intel Core m3 processor with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the best model will jack those stats up to Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Oh, and you'll be able to get one with a 4K display. That's neat.
We're pretty sure all of this will get officially unveiled at Tuesday's Made by Google event, where we're also expecting to see new Pixel phones and new Nest devices. Once things like pricing and availability are out there, we'll let you know.
