Videos of people washing Rs 2,000 notes have gone viral in India, garnering millions of views in less a matter of days. At the time of writing, three out of top 10 trending videos on YouTube in India were about people performing water test on the new Rs 2,000 notes. One of the videos has already clocked over 5.4 million views.

The rumor suggested that the government is using these supposed Nano GPS chips to track cash movement. These speculations and rumors were debunked by India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley last week, but the matter is far from being over.
Reading the comments on these videos, it has become apparent that many people are having no issues believing these false theories. A quick search on YouTube returns several more such videos that have been uploaded in the past few days.
India invalidated two of its most circulated paper currency notes last week, causing panic among hundreds of millions of people. People are forming long queues outside banks and ATMs as they struggle to obtain enough paper cash. Currency notes or more crucially, the lack of them, is what everyone is talking about in India right now.
