In the '90s, Weinstein made large contributions to Bill Clinton's legal defense fund. Weinstein helped to connect Hillary Clinton to Hollywood during her 2016 campaign and organized multiple fundraisers that she headlined.
From 1990-2016, Weinstein raised approximately $1.5 million for the Democratic Party.
Many have criticized Clinton, Obama, and certain members of the Democratic party, all of whom received donations from Weinstein, for staying silent after the revelations broke. Some even lambasted these prominent Democrats for failing to do anything beforehand, when rumors about Weinstein's predatory behavior were seemingly common knowledge.
Select Democrats have chosen to donate the money Weinstein contributed for them.
President Obama has yet to release a statement, though some anticipate that may happen in the next 48 hours.
