The tech giant is "covertly acquiring assets" ahead of a Southeast Asia launch, TechCrunch reported. TechCrunch cited "two sources close to the company." Amazon declined to comment to TechCrunch and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable.

The "assets" Amazon is reportedly acquiring in the region include new hires and refrigerated trucks.
Amazon has expressed its interest in expanded Southeast Asia business before. The company considered acquiring the regional grocery delivery service Redmart, which was instead acquired Wednesday by the Alibaba-backed e-commerce company Lazada.
