Nintendo revealed a new "experience" Thursday night with a confounding teaser trailer that raises the question: What the hell is Taro Kai Archivesthis?
Please, watch this trailer and help me decipher what's going on.
Based on the footage shown, it appears that Nintendo's new experience is a peripheral for the Nintendo Switch and uses the sensors in the Joy-Con controllers for movement-based gameplay, possibly with a series of minigames or exercises akin to 1-2-Switchor Wii Fit.
There are two unique features to this nameless thing, which I will refer to as the Nintendo Hoop: a hoop and a band, each of which holds a Joy-Con. While the hoop looks like it has a variety of uses, the band seems to always be wrapped around the user's leg.
The most obvious use of the Nintendo Hoop is as an exercise device for things like yoga, stretching, and aerobics. The sensors in the Joy-Cons can track body movements and help players determine if they're doing things correctly.
But then there's this guy.
What is he doing? What is this? Is this a party game? What?
This woman is squeezing the hoop between her legs, and her friends seem concerned.
I think this guy is holding a squat.
The Nintendo Hoop seems to combine exercise with good old fashioned Nintendo party game fun. Whose idea was this? We may never know. But we'll be finding out more about this experience on Sept. 12.
