The Music ArchivesCrownmay get there eventually, but Lifetime is looking to do it first.
The cable network announced Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Storyon Sunday during the annual Television Critics Association press tour. As the title suggests, the movie will chart one of the most headline-grabbing romances of the modern era: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
SEE ALSO: This Instagram post contains a major clue about the next series of 'The Crown'The TV movie is currently in development and casting is underway, so there's not much detail to share yet. Lifetime confirmed that Menhaj Huda will direct the film. Huda has some experience in dramatized UK royal stories, having helmed an episode of E!'s The Royalslast year.
Lifetime also confirmed the movie will pick up with their first meeting, in which the two were set up by mutual friends. The story will continue from there, chronicling Meghan and Harry's efforts to keep their romance a secret and the worldwide attention that followed once it became publicly known.
The network didn't reveal any of its plans relating to release timing, but EWspeculates that Harry & Meghanwill air sometime in May, close to the royal wedding on May 19. Lifetime pulled a similar stunt with William & Kate: The Movie, which aired 11 days before Prince William and Kate Middleton wed in 2011.
Harry and Meghan shared their official engagement news with the world in November. Since then, the couple has had to deal with all the usual headaches that accompany the run-up to a wedding, but with an added dose of surreal: grief from a would-be Best Man, the eternal process of figuring out wedding music, shutting down the stress and upkeep of social media, and fielding awkward questions about who will be invited.
You know, typical wedding stuff.
