China’s GAC is Uncategorized Archivesplanning to set up a new company with a registered capital of RMB 1.5 billion ($200 million) dedicated to an ongoing collaboration with Huawei on the development of a new electric vehicle brand, according to a statement published on Jan. 10. The companies’ teams have recently been working together on a first joint model that will target the Chinese mainstream luxury car segment with a price range of RMB 300,000 and above, people familiar with the matter told Securities Daily on Sunday. The news comes a month after Huawei and GAC announced a renewal of their efforts to make EVs together, an idea that was put on hold for three years amid frictions over a range of issues such as pricing. SAIC, another Chinese automaker, is also reportedly set to integrate Huawei’s technology into its upcoming models, after initially rejecting the idea of partnering with the tech giant due to concerns about its rising influence in the auto industry four years ago.
