Little did she know, however, that her childhood hero Emma Bunton -- a.k.a. Baby Spice -- was there to surprise her with a cake and flowers.
Belcher -- who lives in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire -- was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was 5 years old. During her treatment she insisted on wearing her beloved Spice Girls clothes throughout her time in hospital.
"All my 5-year-old dreams have come true -- I came here under the pretence of an afternoon tea, and Baby Spice just appeared! I didn’t have a clue what was going on and meeting her was amazing," Belcher said in a statement emailed to Mashable.
"When I was going through treatment when I was 5, I loved everything that the Spice Girls were about. I used to dress as different Spice Girls each time I had treatment – it really helped at the time and meeting Emma has been such a positive celebration of my 20-year cancerversary," Belcher continued.
Emma Bunton and Sophie Belcher are supporting month-long campaign Stand Up To Cancer.
